PURPOSE:To produce the subject polymer exhibiting a high reactivity and excellent in adhesion, etc., by reacting an alkaline metal sulfide with a dihalogenoaromatic compound in a polar solvent under a specified condition, then removing liquid components from the reaction solution and subsequently washing the residual solid components with water. CONSTITUTION:(A) An alkaline metal sulfide (preferably sodium sulfide) is initially reacted with (B) a dihalogenoaromatic compound (preferably p- dichlorobenzene, etc.) in the presence of a base (preferably NaOH) in a polar solvent (preferably N-methylpyrrolidone) using the component (A) in an excessive amount based on the component (B) on molar base, preferably using the component (B) in a molar ratio of 0.9 to 0.99mol based on 1mol component (A). After completion of the reaction the liquid components such as the reaction solvent and water are then removed from the reaction solution and the residual solid components are washed with water, thus producing the objective polymer. In addition, the reaction between the components (A) and (B) is carried out preferably at 180 to 280 deg.C for 0.5 to 20hr in an atmosphere of nitrogen. |
