The invention relates to an active matrix for liquid-crystal displays, including several image elements, several address buses (1-1, 1-2, 1-3,..., 1-n), and several data buses (2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4,..., 2-m) perpendicular to the address buses, each address bus comprising two auxiliary address buses (1-1', 1-1''; 1-2', 1,2''; 1-3', 1-3'';...; 1,-n', 1-n'') spaced apart from one another, and each data bus comprising two auxiliary data buses (2-1', 2-1'', 2-2', 2-2''; 2-3', 2-3''; 2-4', 2-4'';...; 2-m', 2-m'') spaced apart from one another. Each image element comprises two display electrodes (4', 4''); a first switching means (3', 3'') mounted between each display electrode and a first of the two auxiliary address buses and a corresponding data bus; and a second switching means (3<III>, 3<IV>) mounted between each display electrode and a second of the two auxiliary address buses and the corresponding data bus; each auxiliary data bus being separated from the other by at least one display electrode. <IMAGE>
