The invention relates to a blind for blacking out window openings or similar openings in buildings, it being known that the blind can be wound up on a roller and that the blind and, where appropriate, the roller are located in front of the window opening, within the reveal of the window or - in the case of multiple glazing - between or in front of the glazing. Blind characterised in that the roller (2) is located beneath or on that edge of the window opening, of the window reveal or of the glazing which is situated at the bottom in the mounting position, in that guiding elements (3) are located on that edge of the window opening, of the window reveal or of the glazing which is situated at the top in the mounting position, and in that pulling elements (5), which are diverted by means of the guiding elements (3) and guided down as far as the roller (2), are connected to the front edge (4) of the blind (1) with respect to the unwinding direction. <IMAGE>
