A fuel injection nozzle working on the accumulation principle has a nozzle needle (2) with a tapered annular area (8) interacting with a tapered seat (9) in the nozzle housing (1). In order to minimise the surfaces of the nozzle needle (2) exposed to the combustion chamber pressure in the direction of exposure of a discharge bore (17), the taper angle ( alpha ) of the tapered annular area (20) of the nozzle needle (20) is designed somewhat smaller than the taper angle ( beta ) of the seat (9) (Fig. 2). <IMAGE>
