PURPOSE:To inexpensively provide a paper detecting function and to provide a compact thermal printer by mounting the paper detecting function utilizing a light emitting element and a photodetector on a circuit board executing the wiring processing of a thermal head. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 17 and a photodetector 18 are mounted on a circuit board of thermal printing function having a thermal head 2 and the circuit board 16. A thermal printing means has a cover member 21 having the engaging part with the light emitting element 17 and the photodetector 18 and a light path allowing the light emitted from the light emitting element 17 and reflected by paper to act on the photodetector 18. The light path part of the cover member 21 of the thermal printing means is a light waveguide. |
