PURPOSE: To shorten the converting time of a monochromic rastered bit map by making individual dither processing with respect to all scaling output pixels of a source image unnecessary by directly converting the source image data into compressed data of printer control language method 2. CONSTITUTION: A peripheral device 10 inputs received image data to a RAM 20 and a scaling conversion procedure 36 converts the data into a gray scale and inputs the gray scale to the element of the bit mask array 26, corresponding to an output position bit after inputting the gray scale to the element of a gray scale value array 24. The procedure 36 continues the procedure until output position bits fill up a line in the image and, upon repetitively discriminating the presence of color data, starts a forward reading-out cycle. When procedure 36 reaches the end of the source line, the procedure 36 starts a dither processing cycle and generates an output bit by performing repositioning by selecting the dither matrix 30 corresponding to the element. Then the procedure 36 repetitively executes run compression by performing the compression 32 of PCL method 2 and outputs the compressed results via the output port 20 of a buffer. |
