ELECTRIC DOUBLE-LAYER CAPACITOR

PURPOSE:To obtain an electric double-layer capacitor which can be used for large-current discharge by using an aqueous electrolyte and binding agent containing at least one substance selected from among a thermoplastic resin, thermosetting resin, and the derivative of polyose and winding electrode bodies and separators in a laminated state. CONSTITUTION:Paste is prepared by melting 4g of the powder of high-density polyethylene by heating and adding 6g of activated carbon (having a specific surface area of 1,500m<2>/g) of a phenolic resin and 2g of acetylene black to the melted powder. Then polarizing electrodes 13 having 150mum thicknesses are formed by applying the paste to electricity collecting bodies 12 of a punching metal using nickel provided with leading-out electrodes 11 composed of nickel bars and cooling the paste. Then a pair of electrode bodies 14 are wound with a separator 15 composed of unwoven nylon cloth in between and impregnating the bodies 14 with an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide of 30wt.%. Finally, the electrode bodies 14 are sealed by thermally fusing an exterior material 16 composed of an polyethylene sheet to the electrode bodies 14.
