The invention relates to a skirting board with a retaining device for pipes or cables for channelling hot water and cold water and for heating, sanitary and electric installation systems. The side walls (2, 3) of the retaining device (1), which is open to the front, bear, at their ends, articulation pockets (10, 11) for articulation-pin pairs (13, 14) of an articulation bar (12) which, for its part, has, on its side opposite the wall, mating contours (17, 18) for plug-on ribs (20, 21) which are provided with latching lugs (22, 23) and belong to the skirting board (19). Excellent connection of the components to one another is achieved. A hollow box (4) which is integrally formed on between the side walls (2, 3) in an off-centred manner makes it possible, in addition, to guide a pipe-accompanying band heater in the relatively large receiving space (7). The connection of two of the skirting boards (19) takes place by means of a plug-in tongue plugged into the central hollow chambers.
