<p>An apparatus monitoring the level and temperature of a refrigerant, wherein the temperature of the liquid phase of the refrigerant is to be maintained below an established acceptable value. The apparatus includes a chamber (48) interposed in a liquid line (14) of a cooling system (Figure 1), wherein the chamber (48) has a transverse cross-sectional area greater than the area of the liquid line (14), and is disposed at least partially above the line (14). A temperature sensor (68) and a heater (74) are provided within the chamber (48) above the height of the liquid line (14) and the sensor (68) is connected to an alarm (40). The heater (74) is of a temperature greater than the predetermined value so that when the liquid within the chamber (48) falls below the temperature sensor (68) and heater (74), heat is transferred to the sensor (68) and raises the temperature of the sensor (68).</p> |
