Fifthwheel coupling

A fifthwheel coupling comprises a fifth wheel (12) which is arranged on a semitrailer tractor, and a kingpin which is located on a semitrailer trailer. When the fifthwheel coupling (10) is closed the kingpin bears with at least one first, rotationally symmetrical surface against at least one second, complementary, rotationally symmetrical mating surface (36). Furthermore, means are provided for reducing the friction between the surfaces (36) bearing against one another. At least one of the surfaces (36) is provided with a coating which is composed of at least one layer (44) of hard material applied to the base material (40) of the surface (36) by thermal spraying, and a sliding layer (46) lying above it (Fig. 3). <IMAGE>
