A method for the insertion of connections with wires into connection receptacle sockets, and a device for carrying out the method. The method comprises the steps according to which the connection with the wire is gripped by connection retaining arms and wire retaining arms; a spreading device is moved in one direction in such a manner that it pushes the wires of such connections off to the side, which wires are already accommodated in the adjacent connection receptacle sockets, the spreading device being arranged between the connection receptacle sockets and the connection retaining arms for the rearward and forward movement; and the wire retaining arms and the connection retaining arms being moved in the direction of the plug housing in order to insert the connection with the wire into the connection receptacle socket.
