PURPOSE:To enable specification of a printer to be easily modified, by a construction wherein a controlling ROM and a font ROM which need modification for matching to a host machine are separated from a main body, and are contained in a detachable cartridge. CONSTITUTION:Where printing data correspond to character printing, an MPU 7 controls a CR motor driving circuit 5 to start moving a head, while reading designated character patterns from the font ROM 10. When the printing head 1 is passed through a designated position, a printing head driving circuit 4 is operated, thereby printing. This series of operations are performed according to a procedure determined by the controlling ROM 9, which is specially designated together with the font ROM 10, and an external interface 11, for matching to the host machine. Accordingly, when modifying the specifications of a printer, the cartridge is changed without any improvement in the main body of the printer, and manufacturing cost and developing period can be reduced. |
