The invention relates to a feeding system for poultry in a breeding or laying battery. A feeding trough, with a feed-conveying feature, which extends along the battery is provided with a cover which can be moved between a first position, in which the feeding trough is closed on the top side, and a second position, in which the interior of the feeding trough, as well as the feed present therein, is accessible. The cover can preferably pivot about a pivot axis which extends parallel to the feeding trough, while the movement of the cover can be brought about by a pulling cable feature.
