<p>Process for the preparation of halogenated benzoic acids of the formula (1) <IMAGE> in which R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 are hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine atoms or alkyl-(C1-C6), alkoxy-(C1-C6), nitro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, aldehyde, alkoxy(C1-C4)-carbonyl, -SO2-alkyl(C1-C4)-, -SO2-phenyl, -CONH2, -CON-(alkyl-(C1-C4))2, hydroxyl, carboxyl, -NH2, or -N(alkyl-(C1-C4))2 groups, where at least one of the substituents R1-R5 is one of the abovementioned halogen atoms, by reacting 1 mol of a benzophenone which is asymmetrically substituted with regard to the benzene rings A and B and has the general formula (2) <IMAGE> in which R<1>-R<10> have the meanings given above for R1-R5, with approximately 1 to approximately 10 mol of an oxidant from the series comprising hydrogen peroxide, urea/hydrogen peroxide addition product, alkali metal peroxide, ammonium peroxodisulphates, pertungstates, perborates and percarbonates, alkali metal peroxodisulphates, pertungstates, perborates and percarbonates or alkaline earth metal peroxodisulphates, pertungstates, perborates and percarbonates, or ozone, alkylpercarboxylic acids or arylpercarboxylic acids, alkylpersulphonic acids or arylpersulphonic acids or persulphuric acid, at temperatures from approximately -20@ to approximately +100@C.</p> |
