PURPOSE: To obtain a metal-supported catalytic converter having a uniform coating layer and mechanical strength by rolling metal strips of a specific length, which are obtained by coating a sheet-metal stack beforehand, to form a matrix, inserting the rolled metal strips into a jacketed tube and welding the contact parts of the rolled metal strips with the jacketed tube. CONSTITUTION: The matrix is formed by rolling the metal strips 2, 3 of a specific length, which are obtained by coating the sheet-metal stack required for the metal-supported catalyst beforehand, and inserted into the jacketed tube 1. The contact parts of the metal strips 2, 3 with the jacketed tube 1 are welded and connected by an electron beam welding method, a laser beam welding method, etc. The catalytic converter thus obtained is completely resistant to rigorous stress when it is mounted on an automobile. |
