A gearing arrangement for starter motors in cars has a rotating and sliding pinion (18) on a drive shaft (12). It is connected through a one-way (free-wheel) coupling (16) to a carrier (22) which rotates on the drive shaft courtesy of a helical thread (24). The coupling has rollers (30) between inner and outer components. An elastic sealing ring (36) protects the thread from outside contamination by dirt or damp, and is mounted right beside the guide ring (34).
