The method concerns prodn. of split sliding bearings in a housing, in particular, in the crank case of an internal combustion engine, with the bearing halves (6) forming an integral part of the crank case and the cap-pieces (7) attached to them by means of screws. The cap-pieces (7) are cast monolithically with the respective bearing halves (6) and are sepd. after the casting process. The cap-pieces (7) are sepd. by means of bend and/or pull fracture, with application of impact loading. The fixing holes in the cap-pieces and the corresponding threaded holes in the crank case are produced before sepn. of the cap-pieces. There is a cast-in notch corresponding to the required sepn. line (and running over at least a part of the length of this line). Individual cap-pieces are identified by machine-readable signs.
