The target is concealed from search radar by the formation of a gaseous, nebulous or liq. body around it from inorganic and/or organic gaseous and/or liq. chemical cpds. which absorb radar wavelengths by the excitation of molecular rotation and then reradiate a diffuse polychromatic wave. The cpds. are characterised by at least three nonlinearly arranged atoms per mol., and/or a quasi-continuous rotational absorption spectrum, and/or a dipole moment of inertia between 15 and 1000 times 10 to the power minus 40 g-sq.cm. ADVANTAGE - Screened target reflects little or nothing of impinging extra or very high frequency radiation.
