PURPOSE:To provide a prepreg for a carbon fiber reinforced polyfunctional maleimide resin composite material which can impart excellent toughness to the composite material without detriment to the heat resistance inherent in a polyfunctional maleimide resin used as the matrix resin. CONSTITUTION:The prepreg is prepared from carbon fibers as the reinforcement and a polyfunctional maleimide resin as the matrix resin and has a thermoplastic resin molding present on the surface. The carbon fibers are ones treated with at least one organometallic compound selected from among an organotitanium compound, an organozirconium compound and an organozircoaluminum compound.
