EXCHANGE DEVICE FOR DATA RATE SWITCHING AND SWITCHING METHOD

PURPOSE: To provide efficient multi-data rate connection switching device and method. CONSTITUTION: A time division multiplex(TDM) switching system 100 which switches a data rate hierarchy sets up a connection in a higher rate not as plural individual connections in the lowest rate but as one or more time slots(TS) in each frame of a series of frames corresponding to this higher rate in each super frame. Time slot switching devices 131 and 141 of the switching system 100 use physically or logically independent double buffer data memories corresponding to super frames or frames. Read and write of each buffer in data memories are switched in accordance with the change of a super frame and a frame. Read of the buffer just follows write. Though information from all incoming TSs is stored in data memories, only data rate information of a corresponding frame size is read out from memories to outgoing TSs.
