<p>In a process for programming a motor vehicle display instrument, in particular the available setting buttons of the display instrument may be used to program the odometer, after switching to a programming mode. In order to avoid tampering, programming may be carried out only under certain conditions. For example the count of the odometer should not have exceeded a determined maximal value. In addition, programming may be carried out only once. In particular when a defective display instrument is replaced, this process allows the new odometer to be set at the value of the old odometer, so that the total mileage of the motor vehicle is not falsified.</p> |
