An electric wire (10) comprises an electrically conducting core (13) enclosed in a two part insulating sheath (14). The sheath (14) consists of a thicker inner layer (11) of a mixt. of PP copolymer or a blend with PP as the main component and a halogen-free non-corrosive flame resistant additive e.g. polyammonium phosphate.The thinner outer layer (12) consists of the same polymer mixt. without the additive. Thickness ratio of inner (11) to outer (12) layer is 5:1-10:1, the outer layer thickness being 30-70 pref. 50 microns.
