<p>PURPOSE:To improve the productivity of a cam shaft by fitting and positioning a separate body piece such as a cam, a gear, etc. to a shaft member consisting of a steel pipe, joining them as one body, and thereafter, executing a high frequency quenching to a part corresponding to a journal of the shaft member. CONSTITUTION:A cam 2, a gear 3 and an oil seal 4 being separate body pieces consisting of a sintered alloy or an ingot material are fitted and assembled successively to a shaft member 1 consisting of a steel pipe of about 0.25-0.55wt% carbon content, and positioned and fixed. The fixed members 1-4 are joined as one body in a furnace of ammonia cracked gas atmosphere which causes no decarbonization, and thereafter, surface hardening treatment is executed on a part of a journal 5 of the member 1 by means of high frequency quenching. In this regard, the journal 5 is ground and finished to a desired size. In this way, it becomes unnecessary to install the journal to the shaft member as a separate body piece, and the productivity of a cam shaft is improved.</p> |
