摘要 PURPOSE:To provide a novel microorganism capable of selectively converting alpha-cedrene into see-cedrenol in high yield. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism having an ability of oxidizing the allyl position of cedrene and belonging to the genus Rhodococcus, e.g. Rhodococcus SP- KSM-7538 (FERM P-12039) having an ability of oxidizing the allyl position of alpha-cedrene of formula I to produce sec-cedrenol of formula II. The Rhodococcus.SP-KSM-7538 is obtained e.g. by suspending soil picked up in Katsuyama city in Wakayama prefecture in sterilized deionized water, adding the suspension to a medium containing the alpha-cedrene, subjecting the mixture to a shaking culture treatment, coating the culture product on an agar flat plate medium, separating strains having an ability of utilizing the alpha-cedrene, and subsequently screening a strain producing the see-cedrene from the alpha- cedrene-utilizing strains.
