PURPOSE:To obtain a silicon nitride sintered compact attained in higher density and higher mechanical strength. CONSTITUTION:In the first process, a form is first produced using stock powder prepared by incorporating metallic Si powder with 0.026-4.3wt.% of Cr powder as nitriding-promotive metallic powder. In the next process, this form is then made to react with an N2 gas to synthesize the objective Si3N4 sintered compact. In these reactive sintering processes, the Cr component encloses the nitrogen atom which is then furnished to the metallic Si component. By this catalytic action, nitriding occurs inside the form and the metallic Si powder. |
