PURPOSE:To display a video which does not impart sense of incongruity to viewers on the empty area in a screen when a video signal which is different from the screen in an aspect ratio is displayed. CONSTITUTION:The video data of a television broadcasting of an NTSC system from the circuit part 41 of a sample-and-hold circuit 40 is written in scanning lines 501, 502... where the ON-signals in the display area 51 of a liquid crystal panel 50 are supplied. The video data for pattern display from the circuit parts 112, 43 of the sample-and-hold circuit 40 is written in scanning lines 501, 502... where the ON-signals in the display areas 52, 53 of the liquid crystal panel 50 are e supplied, respectively. Thus, a video which does not impart a sense of incongruity to viewers can be displayed on the empty area in a screen when a video signal which is different from the screen in an aspect ratio is displayed. |
