The tapering or cylindrical casing (3) contains a spiral with one or more turns (5). This is formed by individual vanes, which can be either fixed in position or turned to alter the pitch of the spiral.There can be a coaxial dust-separator (6) inside the casing and before the gas outlet, joining directly onto the spiral.
