Device for measuring the water retention of a paper coating paste, the device comprising a base 1, an absorbent paper 2 to be placed against the base, a test chamber 5 defined by walls 4, in which the coating paste is intended to be placed and to which the absorbent paper is tightly confined, and a sensor mechanism 6 for measuring the water retention of the absorbent paper. According to the invention the device includes pressure elements 7 for pressurising the test chamber 5, so that the water retention can be determined under pressure. <IMAGE>
