Refuse batched e.g. by householders, in specified recycling categories, is dropped through local chutes to a basement collector (1). Thence, it falls through a delivery pipe (3) into floor-mounted (8) bins (4,5,6,...). A motor (2) rotates the cranked pipe, bringing the discharge end over the required bin. The computerised motor control unit responds to category data input via a control panel, at each chute, carrying categorising push-buttons, "wait" and "ready" red and green lights. An audible confirmatory signal is used to announce by voice-synthesiser on interrogation, the currently designated bin. The delivery pipe is fixed, and the bins sit on a motorised rotary or traversing platform.
