Antistatic protection can be provided to a substrate by providing two coatings or layers to the substrate. The first layer is a primer layer comprising a crosslinked blend of at least two polymers, one of the polymers containing a reactive epoxy group and the other of the polymers containing a free hydrogen containing group or salified free hydrogen containing group that crosslink within the coating and the second layer is a subbing layer comprising an ambifunctional silane coupling agent. This coated substrate is particularly useful for photographic media.
