The discharge vessel includes a cylinder (1) from an insulating tube. A pair of discharge electrodes (3,4) and arranged at opposite ends of the cylinder.A number of insulating coating strips (2) which contain a gas ionisation accelerator are arranged on the inner surface of the cylinder. The insulating coating strips run parallel to the central axis of the cylinder and cover region which surround the cathode (3) of the discharge electrodes and a discharge space within the cylinder.
