An endless feeder rail (1) is arranged at a high altitude. A transfer position (2) is set in a path defined by the feeder rail. Corresponding to the transfer position, a loading position (3) is set at a lower altitude. A work-loading traverser (4) extends between these positions. Plural running carriages (1A) (see FIG. 2) are arranged along the rail so that each of the carriages is temporarily stopped at the transfer position. From a work storage (8), a piece of work is loaded on a work loading frame (7) by a worker (9). A loading traverser mechanism (11) lifts the work piece in a suspended position from the loading position (3) to the transfer position (2), where the work piece is transferred onto a work receiving jig (5) of one of the carriage for its conveyance along the rail. The frame (7) is arranged pivotally so that it assumes an inclined position at the position (3) but a horizontal position at the position (2) to facilitate the loading and transfer of the work piece.
