摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To improve compression efficiency without increasing the scale of a hardware by performing the plane prediction of the value of an objective picture element, using the changed amount of the pixel value having a color which is different from the objective picture element. CONSTITUTION:An imaging device 101 reads data at every line in a horizontal direction, an A/D conversion is performed for the output and it is transmitted to a DPCM encoder 104 and a YC process 105. This process 105 converts complementary color digital data into a luminance signal Y and chrominance signals Cr, Cb, and an orthogonal transformation encoder 106 encodes the output of the process 105 and outputs variable length data. The encoder 104 outputs a variable length code and outputs Huffman code table and a longitudinal and lateral pixel sizes to be processed as header information, at first. By the prediction of a pixel value, a picture element B which is one up of a picture element X of predictive object and a left adjacent picture element C which is the next but one to the picture element B are read from a line buffer 103. In this case, 0 is imparted to the B and C when the object picture element is the first line, 0 is imparted to a picture element A when the object picture element is a first row, and predictive value P=A+B-<= is obtained.</p>
