<p>The invention relates to the preparation of polymers of ethylene by polymerizing solely ethylene or by copolymerizing ethylene with one or several comonomers. The comonomer preferably is one or more 1-olefins. The polymerization reaction takes place by means of a catalyst based on chromium oxide. The chromium oxide is placed on a carrier, which typically consists of an inorganic oxide, for example silica, alumina, titania, etc., or a mixture thereof. The chromium compound on the carrier is treated with a dialkylaluminium ethoxide, whereby the formed catalyst is particularly sensitive to the influence of hydrogen during the polymerization, that is the polymer's molecular weight and its distribution can be controllably regulated by the hydrogen amount.</p> |
