<p>α-amino-substituted acetic acid salts or acids of formula (I), wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxyl grouping and X is a hydrogen atom, an alkaline or alkaline earth metal or an ammonium residue, characterized in that they are totally free of halogenoacetic acid and alkaline halide, and may be obtained by the thermal reaction of glyoxal or a precursor thereof with a secondary amine or salt thereof having formula (II), wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxyl grouping, optionally followed by hydrolysis. Said salts or acids are useful as amphoteric surfactants for preparing cosmetic compositions.</p> |
