Disposal of waste material contaminated with heavy metals

Process for treatment and disposal of contaminated materials, esp. dusts, slags and sludges contaminated with heavy metals, comprising (a) immobilising the material with a compsn. contg. a polysulphidic immobilising soln., (b) processing the material with a binder, (c) pelleting the processed material and (d) encapsulating the pellets in a diffusion-tight enclosure.A pref. immobilising agent is a compsn. made by reacting water, sulphur and alkali (ne earth) hydroxides in a ratio of 4.0-6.5:1.0-3.0:1 as described in DE3917412 to give a prod. contg. polysulphides, polysulfanmonosulphonates, polysulfandisulphonates and elementary sulphur.
