The apparatus for determining whether or not there is an audible analog signal includes a central processing unit for controlling a whole operation; a time slot controller for generating a time slot frame synchronizing signal to convey digital data to an assigned channel of a time division multiplex signal line; a pulse code modulation (PCM) coder/decoder for converting an analog signal to a PCM signal or vice versa; a serial/parallel converter for converting serial data to parallel data or vice versa; a PCM matching circuit for controlling a data flow direction; and an audible signal presence/absence determiner for determining whether or not there is an analog signal. The apparatus effectively determines the presence/absence of a audio signal.
