Also claimed is an operation where the glass pane (28) with a scored line (28a) is positioned, and the suction units are evacuated to grasp the glass pane (28). The breaker beam (4) is laid against the pane (28) and, together with the carried suckers, applies a controlled bending action on the pane (28) to break it along the scored line. The suckers are applied against the pane (28) as the breaker beam (4) meets the pane (28). The suckers are plate boxes (19) gripping on one side through a carrier (18) with a swing mounting on the other side, with play in the direction of breaker beam (4) movement. Rows of suckers are along the breaker beam (4) on both sides, with conveyor belts (3) between neighbouring suckers to feed and remove the glass panes (28), and support them in the breaking position. The gap between the glass pane (28) on the conveyor belts (3) or other support, and the suckers retracted into the rest position, is such that the underpressure generated within the suckers draws them against the pane (28). Each sucker has a rigid housing (19) with a perforated suction surface and an elastic sealing cladding (27). The carriers (18) have an adjustment in the direction of breaker beam (4) movement. Two breaking stations can be used, each with a breaker beam and suckers. The breaker beams (4) are at right angles to each other, with a deflection station between them for the glass panes (28). USE/ADVANTAGE - For breaking a glass pane along a line, scoring on one side, by applying a bending action on the glass along the line while the glass is secured by suckers. The suckers, being mounted to the breaker beam, are moved with the beam in and out of action, without a separate control mechanism.
