2-Alkyl-6-ethylnaphthalene is prepared selectively and efficiently by the reaction of at least one kind of feed naphthalene selected from naphthalene and 2-alkylnaphthalenes with polyethylbenzenes at 50 DEG to 400 DEG C. in the presence of a solid acid catalyst.
