PURPOSE: To make it easier for a cover to heat-seal a battery case by preventing restitutive force of a cell element, which is compressed during assembly and set in the battery case, from being applied to the said cover to be put on the said case. CONSTITUTION: In an electric battery, a cell element 2 is provided with reciprocally laminated negative electrode plates 20 and positive electrode plates 26, and fibrous interelectrode separators 28 set therebetween. A retainer plate 32 is set between a cover 44 of a battery case 10 and an end face of the cell element 2 and locked on walls 12, 14, 16, 17 of the battery case with the separators of the cell element compressed. The cell element is thereby held in a compressed state and restitutive force of the separators is prevented from being applied to the cover. |
