The leather-based composite material (1) comprises: - a core (2) formed by an elastic sheet which may be substantially elongated, in a reversible manner, under the effect of a tensile force (F) in at least one direction of elasticity; - on at least one of the faces of the core and firmly adhering to the latter at every point of the surface of the core, a sheet (3) of leather which has been adhesively bonded to the elastic sheet (2), while the latter was stretched and elongated under the effect of a predetermined tensile force (F) less than its elastic limit, this tensile force having been removed after the adhesive had set. Each sheet (3) of leather has a thickness between approximately 0.2 and 0.6 mm. Use especially for replacing leather in the leather conversion (working) industry, especially in the manufacture of shoes and in furniture. <IMAGE> |
