A display control method used to control the appearance of a game character for a video game during a movement of the character along a passage shown on a display screen. This method is used in avideo game machine including an image control unit, a digital memory and a display screen, and consists of the following steps of displaying a passage for one section which has an inclined road surface, a game character in a normally standing state on at least one point on the road and a game character in an inverted state on at least one another point on the same road; storing patterns of a plurality of kinds of animation images for expressing the appearance of the character in various positions on the inclined road surface of the passage during the movement of the character along the inclined road surface; tracing the position of the character on the inclined road surface of the passage during the movement of the character therealong retrieving from a storage means patterns of animation images representing the image of the character in various positions on the inclined road surface of the passage; and displaying the character by using the retrieved pattern so that the character shows various appearances in various positions on the inclined road surface of the passage. |
