A CPU receives the output of a note sensing circuit 20 and retrieves sound data from ROM 7. The CPU also receives data from a function selector for defining the required position of a listener and optional features such as room type and relative volume of tune and accompaniment (Figure 2). A display 82 shows the defined listener position, room type, and relative volumes. A sound generator 52 generates a sound signal in response to the sound and function data, which signal is processed and also used to generate an echo effect signal for mixing with the processed signal in mixer 70.
