PURPOSE:To obtain a water-soluble metal working oil having good emulsion stability and being lowly foaming and excellent in lubricating and rust-preventive properties by incorporating a compound obtained by effecting the addition reaction of an alkylamine with ethylene oxide and reacting the addition product with a fatty acid. CONSTITUTION:A compound represented by the general formula [wherein R is 8-22C alkyl or alkenyl; R's are each H or R''CO (wherein R'' is 7-21C alkyl or alkenyl), provided that at least one of them is R''CO; (x) and (y) are each an integer of 1 or greater; and x+y=2-40] and obtained by effecting the addition reaction of 1mol of a primary amine such as laurylamine, stearylamine, oleylamine or behenylamine with 2-40mol of ethylene oxide and reacting 1mol of the obtained ethylene oxide adduct with 1-2mol of a fatty acid such as coconut oil fatty acid, lauric acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid or behenic acid, or a vegetable or mineral oil containing this compound in an amount of usually 2-40% is mixed with another surfactant, and the resulting mixture is used for a water-soluble metal working oil. |
