PURPOSE:To improve the abrasion resistance of compression ring and an oil ring, by constructing a compression ring and an oil ring side rail of a steel material such that it contains specified weight percentages of C and Cr, chromium carbide is finely dispersed in its basic composition, and its hardness lies within a specified range. CONSTITUTION:The outer surface of steel compression ring 1 is covered with hard metal coating 11, such as chromium plating. Composite oil ring 4, which is to be combined with ring 1, is composed of side rail 2 and spacer-expander 3. Ring 1 and side rail 2 are made of a steel material such that it contains C, 0.16-1.40wt%, and Cr, 11-19wt%, chromium carbide is finely dispersed in its basic composition, and it hardness lies within HRC 30-50. By this, oil ring 4 and compression ring 1 can exhibit excellent abrasion resistance for a long time, and the entire composition can be well balanced. |
