PURPOSE:To improve the spalling resistance of a sintered compact at the time of producing the sintered compact contg. a non-oxide ceramic by specifying the ratio of the flexural strength at a specified high temp. to that at normal temps. CONSTITUTION:An Si-SiC sintered compact is produced as follows. SiC powders and graphite powders are mixed, and an org. binder, water and org. solvent are incorporated into the mixture. The forming material is compacted. The compact is placed in a metallic silicon atmosphere and in a reduced-pressure inert gas atmosphere or in vacuum to impregnate the compact with the metallic silicon. An Si-SiC sintered compact is produced in such a manner the ratio of the flexural strength at 900-1000 deg.C to that at normal temps. is controlled to 0.9-1.2. Since the temp. change of the flexural strength of this sintered compact is small and the compact is excellent in spalling resistance, the compact is appropriately used for the shelf in the rapid sintering furnace for the ceramic, etc. |
