New protein tyrosine kinase and related nucleic acid - vectors, transformed cells, etc., useful for diagnosis and treatment of tumours

New TKT (tyrosine kinase related to trk (a proto-oncogene)) receptor protein (I) has a 650 amino acid sequence reproduced in the specification, or part of it. Also new are (1) nucleic acid (II) encoding (I) or its variants (2128bp sequence reproduced), including variants within the degeneracy of the genetic code and sequences which hybridise with it under stringent conditions; (2) vectors contg. at least one copy of (II); (3) cells contg. (II) or transformed with the vectors; (4) single-stranded nucleic acid which is a gene-specific partial sequence of (II) or a sequence complementary to it. USE - (I), a new member of the protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) family), antibodies against (I) and (II) are useful in diagnosis (by hybridisation of immunoassay) and/or treatment of tumours. Antibodies against (I) can be radiolabelled or coupled to a cytotoxin for destruction of cancer cells, while antisense nucleic acid can be used to inhibit TKT gene expression.
