The injector comprises an injection piston moving at a speed which increases proportionally to the speed of rotation of the engine and is adapted to inject the fuel via an injection hole controlled by a shutter member which enables injection of the fuel when this member reaches a predetermined opening pressure; on the basis of this system, during each injection cycle the injection piston is caused to advance over a first portion of its forward stroke at a speed which increases proportionally to this stroke, over a second portion of its stroke at a constant speed and over a third portion of its stroke at a speed which again increases proportionally to this stroke.
