The appts. to sterilise water, at the drawing point, has a mirrored interior divided into chambers each with a shortwave UV lamp (5). The UV lamps are connected to an electronic control system. The water flows into the appts. at the inlet (2), to follow a serpentine path to the outlet (3). Pref. appts. has a closed and sealed, and pref. cylindrical body, as a housing with a cover and base plate. Dividers (4) within the housing separate the interior into chambers, in a star shape, with the ends bonded to the inner wall of the housing, and at least partially bonded to the cover and base plates. The divider unit (4) has openings for flow linkage between the chambers, and with no flow passage opening in the divider (4) between the inlet (2) and outlet (3). A silicon sealing mass is used to fix the divider (4) at the housing and the cover and base plates. The divider (4) has a central drilling for a mounting to pass through for attachment to the cover and base plates. The UV lamps (5) have a curved or serpentine shape, passed in a curve through the flow passage opening in the divider (4) at the cover or base side, and fixed in place. The UV lamps (5) have impressed electrodes (15), with impressed connections to the electronic control, with a water-tight plastics shrouding round this section of the lamps (5). The electronic control is connected to current and thermal sensors (8) to set the lamp (5) power according to the water flow through and the water temp., with a stand-by setting when water is not flowing. USE/ADVANTAGE - The water sterilising unit, at the drawing point, is for hospitals and nursing homes and the like, and in domestic situations where infants' food or special diets are prepd. which require supplies of germ-free water. The appts. can be fitted directly at the drawing point, where required, to deliver germ-free water of good purity for a long working life.
