PURPOSE:To improve the picture quality of characters on dots and a color base, to effectively remove moire generated in a dot printing original and to make the smoothness of the flat part of a photograph original and the sharpness of an edge part compatible with each other. CONSTITUTION:Input picture data are the R, G and B data of linear reflectivity. A black edge amount calculation part 1 is composed of a black degree calculation part 11 for calculating how much a picture element under consideration is close to black and an edge amount calculation part 12 for deciding the edge amount of the picture element under consideration. A smoothing circuit 2 smoothes the R, G and B data of linear reflectivity and prevents the generation of the moire. An edge emphasis circuit 3 varies the degree of the intensity of edge emphasis corresponding to the result of the black edge amount calculation part 1. |
